A man wanted in Florida in connection with felonies involving sex crimes was arrested in Rockbridge County on Wednesday.
U.S. Marshals office spokesman Mark Durig said Gregory Delmas Staton, 43, of Rockbridge County, was arrested after being wanted in connection with multiple counts of sexual felonies against a minor, who was a tourist in Florida at the time of the incident.
Staton was being sought by the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office in Florida after investigators accused him of having contact with a young victim on several different occasions, Durig said. Florida authorities believed he came to the area and they alerted local U.S. Marshals on Wednesday morning, who immediately started looking for him, Durig said.
Staton was arrested without incident and sent to the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office to be held until he is extradited to Florida, according to Durig.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force from Virginia and Florida both worked on the case along with several members of Roanoke County Police Department and the Department of Corrections.
