A restaurant serving breakfast and lunch has opened in Salem.
Brian Guthrie opened Sixth Street Cafe in the building where Miss Kitty's Cafe closed. Guthrie owns a flooring business next to the restaurant.
The restaurant is small - 900 square feet - and can seat only 19 people at a time.
Guthrie said he spent about $15,000 of his savings to open the restaurant. He bought some of the kitchen equipment from the previous restaurant owner and is leasing the building.
Guthrie, 52, has owned Guthrie Floor Sanding and Refinishing for 27 years. He still operates that business but said it is labor-intensive and that he would like to retire from the flooring business if the restaurant does well.
The restaurant is at 217 E. Sixth St.
