A truck got stuck under a bridge on the line between Roanoke and Vinton on Friday afternoon.
Roanoke Police Lt. S.E. Keatts said that a large moving truck drove under the bridge on Wise Avenue about 3 p.m., but the truck surpassed the height limit and became lodged underneath it. Keatts said the top of the truck was peeled off and the trailer was damaged in the wreck.
He said the bridge, which is owned by Norfolk Southern Corp. and has railroad tracks on it, did not appear to be damaged.
Keatts said Michael Woolcott Jr., 21, was charged with disregarding signage that prohibited vehicles of a certain height to pass under the bridge.
Since the bridge is directly on the line dividing Roanoke and Vinton, both police deparments directed traffic and worked to get the truck out from under the bridge. Keatts said one lane of traffic on Wise Avenue has been closed and police were still on the scene as of 3:45 p.m.
