Lightning from a Wednesday afternoon storm caused a fire in Salem.
Salem rescue crews were called to a fire in the 500 block of Craig Avenue shortly after 3 p.m., according to a release from the Salem Fire-EMS.
The release said upon arrival, crews saw smoke coming from the building but were able to confine the fire to the basement within 10 minutes.
Two residents were at the home at the time of the fire, but both escaped without injuries, the release said.
The Salem Fire Marshal's office ruled the fire accidental and determined that it was cause by a lightning strike, according to the release.
There was not a loss estimate because of the extensive damage done to the home's electrical system, the release said, but the house did sustain fire and smoke damage.
