>The Taubman Museum of Art announced the winners of the 55th annual Sidewalk Art Show on Saturday.
Edgar Reims of Harpswell, Maine, won best in show. Michael Preble of Norfolk and Max Mitchell of Roanoke took second and third prize respectively. The Anstey Hodge Advertising Group Award for Excellence in Design was given to Michael Farrar of Clifton Forge, and the Art of Mobility Award went to Hershel Brewer of Troutville.
Memorial awards were given to Mary Boxley Bullington of Roanoke, Mitchell, Robin Poteet of Salem and Charlene Engel of Nashua, N.H.
Merit awards were given for various categories.
Edward Bordett of Fincastle received the drawing/original printmaking award. Steve Mitchell of Roanoke won the fine craft award. Natasha Caine of Wilmington, N.C., was given the mixed media award. The painting award went to Gray Dodson of Arrington. William Bishop of Lynchburg won the photography award and John Wilson of Roanoke the sculpture award.
This year's show featured about 120 artists from across the East Coast, many of them from Virginia. All the paintings, prints, sculptures and other pieces were on exhibit in Roanoke, and visitors could talk with the artists.
Sarah Sargent, independent art critic and contributing editor to Virginia Living magazine, served as judge.
