Verizon's high-speed Internet service was restored Wednesday afternoon after a regionwide outage that lasted for several hours, a company spokesman said.
The DSL service was restored about 1:45 p.m., Harry Mitchell said. One of the companies whose fiber-optic lines Verizon leases was able to resolve an unspecified issue, he said.
Mitchell said the outage was first noticed about 9:30 a.m. and affected "a good portion of Southwest Virginia." He declined to say how many customers the company has in the region.
"We appreciate customers' patience, and we regret any inconvenience this issue may have caused them," Mitchell said in an email.
