Police are searching a black SUV driven by the victims of a deadly Tuesday night shooting.
Wilson Lenin Abarca-Mejia, 30, of Roanoke was killed and another man was injured in the shooting Tuesday night in the 1400 block of Abbott Street Northwest, according to police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson.
According to a warrant filed in Roanoke Circuit Court, Abarca-Mejia drove himself and the other man to the area in a black 2007 Toyota RAV4.
Officers responding to a call about a gunshot victim found Abarca-Mejia lying in the street, but the warrant said they also found “obvious signs of blood” in the car and a bloody fingerprint on the hood. The car is not registered to Abarca-Mejia. Johnson said it had not been reported stolen.
According to the warrant, Abarca-Mejia was shot in the back of his left shoulder and was dead when officers arrived. The injured man suffered a gunshot wound to his right arm. He was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Johnson said the man’s injuries are not life-threatening.
The warrant said officers also found marijuana in the car.
Officers searched the area Tuesday night, but no arrests have been made. Johnson said Wednesday that police are seeking two suspects. One is described as a 19- or 20-year-old black male who is about 5 feet tall and weighs about 150 pounds. She said they did not have a description of the second suspect.
Johnson said no further details were available because the investigation is ongoing.
The incident is the city’s fourth homicide of 2013.
