UPDATE May 7, 2013: Bedford County man charged with setting a fire at his own house
Crews Monday evening returned to the scene of an earlier house fire in Bedford County after spotting new flames, officials said.
Firefighters were called back to the home in the 1000 block of Murray Hollow Road in Montvale shortly before 10:45 p.m., according to Bedford County emergency dispatchers.
A tweet posted on the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department’s official Twitter account said firefighters arrived to find “heavy fire” coming from three sides of the house.
Crews were still battling the fire by 11 p.m.
Three people were displaced from their Bedford County home following the fire that began just after 2 p.m.
Crews were told a bedroom was on fire, said Bedford County Fire & Rescue Deputy Chief Marci Stone. Firefighters arrived and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the house.
Three residents made it out safely and are being assisted by the Red Cross, Stone said.
Crews were able to contain the fire to two rooms, but smoke damaged much of the house, she said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
