A man who authorities said had previously made threats against law enforcement was shot “several times” Monday evening by Grayson County sheriff’s deputies after he pointed a handgun and advanced toward them, according to a news release.
Two on-duty and two off-duty deputies responded after Randy Lee Anders, 32, of Mouth of Wilson was reportedly seen walking on Grassy Creek Road. Anders was wanted on outstanding warrants, according to the Galax Gazette.
The deputies found Anders while searching the basement of a residence on Grassy Creek Road, the release said, and did not comply with commands given by the deputies. Anders was shot after he “advanced toward the deputies with a handgun pointed toward them,” the release said.
Anders was flown to Bristol Regional Medical Center and was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon.
The Virginia State Police is investigating the shooting.
