Police are investigating a 56-year-old woman's death in South Roanoke.

A news release from police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson said officers responded to the 2600 block of Stanley Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. Monday when one of the woman's family members reported that a body had been found.

Johnson said the woman's body was found by a family member inside a residence and taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

She said investigators, along with the medical examiner's office, will determine whether foul play was involved. No determination has been made as to whether a crime occurred, Johnson said.
