A woman went to the hospital this afternoon after a man got into her car and robbed her in Salem, officials say.
Salem spokesman Mike Stevens said in a news release that a woman was sitting in her car in the 100 block of North Broad Street about noon when a man walked up to her car. Stevens said the woman rolled down her window to see what the man wanted and the man was able to get into her car when she opened her window.
The man made the woman drive into a nearby alley, stole an unspecified amount of money and ran away , Stevens said.
The woman was taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.
Stevens said the man was described as being white, in his late teens, a bout 6 feet tall and wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Salem police at 375-3078 or the Roanoke Crime Line at 344-8500.
