Tuesday, April 2, 2013
Roanoke police arrested a woman in connection with two similar business robberies that occurred on the night of March 18.
According to a news release from Roanoke police spokesman Sgt. J.K. Holt , officers arrested Janice Marie Hairston, 51, of Roanoke, and charged her with two counts of robbery.
The investigation began March 18, when employees of Replay Games in the 2600 block of Peters Creek Road Northwest called police about 8:40 p.m. When officers arrived, employees told them that a woman had entered the store and asked for change.
With the cash register opened, the woman indicated she had a weapon, grabbed money and fled, according to the release.
Later that night, in the early hours of March 19, officers were called to the Stop In Food Store in the 2900 block of Edgewood Street Southwest. Holt said an employee told officers that a female had asked for change, only to indicate she had a weapon and grab an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register.
No one was hurt in either incident.
Holt said Hairston is being held in the Roanoke City Jail.
