Union Hall man charged with malicous wounding after fight
Monday, March 18, 2013
A Union Hall man faces a malicious wounding charge after a fight Saturday outside a Franklin County motel.
Franklin County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Phillip Young said deputies were called to the Redwood Motel in the 18000 block of Virgil H. Goode Highway at 5:48 p.m. When they got there, they found two men - one with a shovel, the other with a golf club - in the midst of a scuffle.
Young said officers arrested Anthony Ray Hagy, 41. He said Hagy had driven to the motel to confront a man, Ricky Cook, though what the argument was about remains unclear.
When Hagy arrived, he found Cook wielding a golf club, authorities said.
"Hagy went behind the building and picked up a shovel," Young said. "He threw the shovel at Cook and struck him in the right arm."
A bystander tried to call 911, but Hagy knocked the phone out of his hands, authorities said.
Cook was later taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital, where he received eight stitches. Hagy was denied bond, and is listed as an inmate at the Franklin County Jail.
