ADMINISTRATIVE

  • The nonprofit organization Carpenters Foundation, also called Manna Ministries, helps low-income families with food boxes, clothing, school supplies and pet food.   • Rescue Mission needs  volunteers to read bedtime stories to children; assemble new furniture in the thrift store; adults to transport children to a day camp; post and maintain the Rescue Mission’s eBay account; evening tutors in math and reading for the men and women in the recovery program; adult weekday breakfast helpers in food service.   • The Roanoke Valley CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Foundation will hold training for new volunteers beginning in September. Sessions will be conducted twice weekly for six weeks in the CASA offices, Suite 310 of the Jefferson Center, 541 Luck Ave. CASA volunteers are trained advocates who are appointed by judges to be the voice for an abused or neglected child in court.   • Ronald McDonald House is seeking volunteers to prepare dinner for their house guests. Great opportunity for families/groups. Ronald McDonald House Family Room at Roanoke Memorial Hospital will open in September and will provide respite for adult family members of hospitalized children. MEDICAL/TRANSPORTATION

  • Good Samaritan Hospice is looking for family support volunteers to work with terminally ill patients two to four hours per week.  Our next training class begins on Oct. 2 and will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with the final class on Oct. 25.  Contact Becky Harris at 776-0198 or bharris@goodsamhospice.org no later than Sept. 24.
