Video: Contestants down ribs at Roanoke blues festival

Follow along with "Gonzo" (right) as he attempts to eat as many ribs as possible in three minutes.

Editor's note: This multimedia represents a 3-minute contest. It has been edited for brevity.

Gonzo the Muppet may have infamously attempted to eat a rubber tire, but Gonzo the festivalgoer didn't seem to have as much luck Saturday with two aluminum tins of ribs.

Identifying himself to judges only as "Gonzo," the man wolfed down 13.3 ounces of pork ribs from Martin's Downtown Bar and Grill in Roanoke, though he didn't place in the contest.

The event was held Saturday evening at the SunTrust Big Lick Blues Festival. The goal? Eat as many ribs as possible in three minutes.

Gonzo's weigh-in fell short of the first-place measurement. Ron Webb of Roanoke, managed to consume 1 pound 4 ounces of meat in the allotted time, beating out the five other competitors.

"It was fun," Gonzo said. "I've never been in front of crowd like that before."

Had Gonzo consumed the most ribs, he may have been disqualified.

Shortly after time was called, some of the meat he ingested managed to find its way back up and out of his mouth into an appropriately placed trash can.

"I started to get full quick," he said.

As for the unplanned upchuck?
