Video: Paralympic gold medalist visits Roanoke to hold training clinic

A gold medalist was in Roanoke Wednesday.

Brian Frasure, a paralympic gold medalist and certified prosthetist, visited The Edge Sports Performance Center for a training clinic with local amputees.

Frasure showed the group exercises to help improve their stability, coordination, strength and balance. He said a similar clinic that he attended in 1994 was what pushed him to get back into track and field.

"I've seen the impact of this that [the clinic] can have on people and how encouraging it is and how inspiring it is," Frasure said.

Alan Williams drove from Floyd to attend, and he said this was the first type of training clinic he'd ever been a part of. Despite living with a prosthetic device on his left leg for most of his life, Williams recently received a new prosthetic.

"I want to get back to being more active and with this new leg, I hope to be able to do more things now," he said.

Virginia Prosthetics helped sponsor the event.
