Video: William Fleming students design bus shelter

The nearly-completed William Fleming High School will become more colorful next fall thanks to a bus shelter designed by Fleming art students.

Teacher Jimmy Deck's architectural and interior design class spent all year brainstorming, studying and designing a bus shelter to be built in front of the new William Fleming High School next year.

Studying all forms of public art then different forms of public bus shelters, the class began brainstorming and sketching ideas in the fall.

Then the class split into groups to develop 3-D replicas of their shelters. As shelter designs were narrowed down, the final two groups combined their ideas to make the final product.

Some of the students who helped designed the final bus shelter are Matt Hartman, Dylan Amick, Marlyne Hamilton, Theresa Lohse, Sydney Sparrow and Mary Ingram.

Local artist Ed Dolinger and Roanoke Public Art Coordinator Susan Jennings also helped the students throughout the year as they worked on the project.
