A standoff at a church in Northeast Roanoke ended shortly after noon when officers went into the church to remove the armed woman. No one was injured.

Silas Witt, a deacon who has been a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church since 1938, checks on the church every day with his wife because the congregation has had so many problems with thefts and vandalism.

He said when they reached the church this morning, they saw an unfamiliar car with Nevada license plates in the parking lot, with a chair from the church’s porch standing next to it. He drove around the back of the building, saw an open window and called police.
