The U.S. Postal Service expects December 17 to be the busiest mailing day of the year. Also expected is that daily volume will rise by 34 percent to 900 million pieces of outgoing mail.

On Thursday, customers at the Main Post Office in Roanoke line up to send packages to far away family and friends.
