Four-day workweek comes to Roanoke

A local employer, Chas. Lunsford & Sons, plans to offer a four-day workweek to its employees starting Aug. 4. It's an effort to help employees save money on gas and travel expenses.

While America is a long way from cutting back to a four-day week in every workplace, a smattering of government agencies, companies and organizations have shortened their weeks this year.

What do you think? Would a four-day workweek save you money? Would you take the opportunity, if your company offered it as an option? Is your company planning to offer such a program?

Advance Auto Parts will relocate approximately 40 Roanoke jobs to its new regional office in Minnesota.

The jobs, which represent about 2.5 percent of the retailer’s Roanoke work force, are part of merchandising and inventory through the auto parts retailer’s do-it-yourself segment, said spokeswoman Shelly Whitaker. The company told employees through meetings and a memo on Monday, offering those impacted the choice to relocate or to apply for other positions within Advance in Roanoke or elsewhere.

Talk about the plan to relocate the jobs to Minneapolis.
