I think that the restoration of the 611 and 1218 for excursion service in 1982 to mark the city's 100th should be a very significant mark in the timeline. It brought old and new Roanoker's together and rekindled an interest in our industrial history.

Roanoke's city limits signs haven't always been located where we see them today. The annexation of large amounts of Roanoke County in 1949 and 1976 were huge events for the citizens who lived during those eras.
The city made quite a few promises to the areas facing annexation and much "politickin" was done between the elected representatives of valley governments during these tumultuous periods.
