Roanoke Regional Airport use
How do you use the Roanoke Regional Airport when you travel?

Do you consider alternatives, or is it a given that you will fly out of Roanoke? Have current gas prices changed the way you decide how you'll use the airport?

The Greensboro airport loses passengers to nearby Raleigh & Charlotte while Roanoke people drive to Greensboro. When the govt.
regulated the industry there were no problems. I believe Mr. Greenspan was the architect of the airline fiasco. Everyone blames the airline mess on high fuel prices but why don't other countries have this problem? If people don't want to fly out of Roanoke then do what Chattanooga(close to Atlanta)is attempting. They want to build a high speed rail link to the Atlanta airport. It would be cheaper and faster than flying there. If Roanoke could build one to Dulles, traveling at 150mph it would only take an hour to get to this major airport and never worry about Roanoke airport again!!

I agree with SMayPower, unless I'm headed to Florida on Allegiant Air, I don't fly out of Roanoke. Much cheaper to fly out of Greensboro or Charlotte.

As a USAIR Silver Preferred flyer from Salem and small business owner, I completely wrote off flying out of ROA 2 years ago. The astronomical rates compared with other nearby airports such as Greensboro became cost prohibitive. Sometimes the cost difference between flying out of Roanoke vs. flying out of Greensboro would be $400-$500 or more to airports like ATL and DFW. When you have to consistently purchase 2-3 tickets, the drive to NC is always worth it! Until ROA learns to become more competitive, I could care less how many flights are available through ROA. Drill USA, Drill Now!

Roanoke Regional Airport is a necessity in my life. I work from a regionally-based office (the company headquarters I work for is Colorado based) and I take up to 20 round-trip flights annually from this airport. I have a mom in New York and my dad and brother in Florida so I use the airport to visit them, too. I don't want to read about any possibilities of the airport closing because I'm not sure what that would mean for me and my family here in the Roanoke Valley. I doubt there are many jobs in the area that would provide the salary and flexiblity I have at this time. On a side note - I support airlines' decisions to charge more for an extra suitcase and to cut some amentities. However, a soda(or water) and snack should be provided.
