to HELL with you.
If you cannot provide the reporters to cover the news, you IMMEDIATELY become totally beyond important!

This whole thing is stupid. What's the deal with giving out names? Is that the right thing to do now? Not hide behind some handle? Silly, silly, silly!

not trying to flame, just trying to point out the possible miscommunication.

5. PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS:
a. A communication from Mayor C. Nelson Harris recommending that the matter of having City Council elections become non-partisan be referred to the Legislative Committee for possible inclusion in the City’s 2008 Legislative Program.
Above is a good topic for discussion - what diffence will it make in our local elections?

Though I do not always agree with what is and what is not reported by out local reporters I have the the utmost respect for their work. The editors have control over headlines and article placement. This forum gives the public some avenue for getting either added information that cannot be justified as a story by the editors but is still important information none the less. If I may suggest to those who post here - consider being more active in your community - join a neighborhood organization. With others you can make a diffence - Valerie Garner

I'd like to see a forum for story ideas. There is what I consider to be a big story but no one is reporting it. If you have an account with a major bank, any of them, they are outsourcing a lot of functions to countries that are not very secure.
If you place a call to them and get one of these foreign call centers, the first thing you have to do is give them security information to prove who you are. That means they have access to ALL your private identification information, including social security number.

I may be wrong, but the only organization folks really question on anonymous postings have dealt with Roanoky City government, or its school system. As you point out, don't these employees have freedom of speech as well? Trouble is, if they are known to talk to the press they are labled as "malcontents" and harassed. Didn't our founding fathers dress up like Indians so that it would be harder to identify them as they threw the tea into Boston Harbor? If they had had blogs and anonymous Internet postings back then, do you think they would have used them? If the press would really serve as investigators in this city, and not the take the word of administrators that "all is well", they would win Pulitzers!

I have used Roanoke.com to discuss the frustrations that teachers and administrators have faced while working within a certain city school. I am sure there was, at times, cause for debate among your staff about what to delete and what to let stand, but so many feel powerless in Roanoke, especially within in the school system. I have never considered myself a one who rants, but certainly, anonymous postings did help in the removal of the last superintendent. I believe that very few of the postings you all receive concerning the city schools are from people who want to air "dirty laundry" - they are just feed up and see no other way to get their voices heard.
