There was a recent study released (latest of many) this week that stated the exact opposite of our first poster.

The death penalty DOES, in fact, deter criminals and reduces violent crime. This according to professionals and experts who've studied the effects of the death penalty for years.

Incidentally, I myself am on the fence on this issue.

I wonder how Senator Bell's plan to trounce private property rights by banning smoking on private property turned out? Don't I recall him saying something about how he'd let the voters decide if he was right or wrong?

"Oops!!!"

Excuse me but why do you constantly continue to adress smoking when our state hasn't had a party which hasn't recieved funding from major smoking companies. Not tomention the fact that Virginia as well as North Carolia are the two biggest contributing states for the smoking Industries! But by all means please ban it everywhere and every smoker will be outlaws!!That is the final end to it isn't it!!! I mean after all why not just shoot every smoker you meet and it will be justified because non smokers are always right ! oops politically correct!!!Then the next Bill to go the the House will be banning Farting in public!! oops Passing Gas!!!Why aren't we more concerned about getting troops HOME Safely and For good!!! Up In Smoke in Va!

Senator Edwards is to be thanked for his courageous votes to uphold Gov. Kaine's veto of the Triggerman Rule Elimination bills. The bills would have allowed for accomplices to be tried for capital murder. The removal of the Triggerman Rule would have resulted in a dramatic expansion of capital indictments and trials in Virginia. Thus resulting in millions more tax dollars being diverted away from needed programs to assist the victims' family members and law enforcement officers. The death penalty is not a deterrent to murder. To guard against the possible execution of an innocent individual like Earl Washington Jr., we must limit the use of the death penalty not expand the number of people eligible for a capital indictment.
