Your story touched me so much. My husband Scott is a career Marine, 16 years this last fall (CWO3). He is coming home from his second deployment and this last one was a full year. He will finally be home in two weeks!! I've learned a lot about the Marine Corps and the passion that Marines feel for what they do. I have seen it through the heart and soul of my husband. One thing he always reminds me is keep focused honey on the future because you can't change the past. Learn from the past and push forward. I guess that is what I want to share with you today...push forward and focus on your future. It is so bright and you have an advantage. You are and always will be a Marine! Take care and God bless! As a librarian at an elementary school in Rockbridge County, I've been sharing the story of Jordan's War with our fifth graders, and it has provoked a lot of interested discussion in our library class. Thanks to your story, I've been able to answer a lot of questions about this war that I wouldn't have otherwise: questions like what happens to soldiers after they're wounded, what's it like to be on a patrol in Iraq, etc. We've even used your story to compare the Iraq war with the American Civil War, which the fifth graders are now studying. Thanks so much for providing a wonderful story with so many educational opportunities!
Sincerely,
Nancy Sheridan

As the wife of a disabled, retired Marine, I appreciate your delving into and revealing Jordan's story. It's a story that needed to be told and you have done it in an informative and touching way. Many civilians go about their daily lives without a clue as to what is going on behind the scenes with US military personnel. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes a war before they get noticed. Thank you for responsible journalism.

He showed a lot of courage in changing his life by entering the Marine Corps and I'm sure that same courage will sustain him in his civilian life. I think we should all be proud and grateful that is the type of soldier fighting for our freedom. You are in our thoughts and prayers Corporal.

dgrantcox on 3/30/2006 4:50:20 PM wrote: This is one of the most poignant stories The Rke. Times has published. Have you considered follow-up stories--one year from today, again after his wife gets out of the Marines, 5 years from now, and 10 years from now? Many people have been touched by this story. The common man needs to experience the real emotion and the real facts about what is happening to "our" servicemen and women who are defending our country--getting injured, not getting the well-deserved proper medical care, and receiving the appropriate recognition for their duty. I think reading a story such as this helps us understand better why our country is in Iraq or Afghanistan--what it means to "our" freedom. From the bottom of my heart, I say a sincere thank you to ALL!

Jordan, thank you. I really appreciate what you have done for me, my family, and our country. I also appreciate you allowing the Roanoke Times to tell us your story. We get to see and hear about the body counts, the failures of the US Military, and the successes of the Insurgents everyday. But, what's left out are the struggles that our solderies edure doing what their country has asked of them. Your story sheds a whole new light on this war for me, and for that I thank you.
