Whoever said wearing too much of a single color is a faux pas has been proven wrong, because June was definitely the month of matching colors.

Whether it was matching shoes to tops, or only wearing gold accessories, the centerpiece to the outfits I saw was a unifying tone.

Shorts and sandals are making their presence known, but I’m looking forward to seeing what summer styles will really stand out as the temperatures rise in July.

Till then, have a safe and stylish Fourth of July next week!

Name: Brian Campbell

Something you would never be caught wearing? “Crocs.”

What’s this outfit’s signature piece? “My suspenders.”

Where to get it: H&M

Occupation: Kindergarten teacher

Age: 30

Location: Campbell Avenue, Roanoke

Date: Friday, June 7, 2013

Time: 7:14 p.m.

What caught my eye: Brian was definitely on point with summer trends. Plaid shirts have been very popular the last couple years for summer wear, and chinos like his gray ones here have really taken over jeans for the warm months.

The suspenders and his bracelets were great details tying the whole look together.

Name: Emily Saluke

How would you describe your personal style? “Polished, elegant, clean and classic.”

What’s this outfit’s signature piece? “My little gold purse.”

Where to get it: Shopbop.com

Occupation: Resident physician at Carilion

Age: 27

Location: Jefferson Street and Church Avenue, Roanoke

Date: Friday, June 7, 2013

Time: 8:02 p.m.

What caught my eye: When I first saw Emily’s outfit, I was immediately drawn to her neckline.

I really loved the subtleties of her sheer blouse, the way it was cut all the way up to the neck, but with a few buttons undone showing just enough of her gold necklace. Not too modest, but not even close to being inappropriate.

Her dark navy blue pencil skirt was the perfect fit and had a great texture to it, adding a bit more detail to such a simple look. Emily’s little gold bag was super chic as well. I loved pretty much everything about this.

Name: Ashton McNutt

How would you describe your personal style? “I guess it’s a bit of classic styles with a bit of edginess added. I like to wear denim and leather jackets, I also wear a lot of black.”

What’s this outfit’s signature piece? “My shoes, I got them at a boutique in Iowa City.”

Occupation: Student at Jefferson College of Health Sciences

Age: 26

Location: First Street, Roanoke

Date: Tuesday, June 4, 2013

Time: 3:52 p.m.

What caught my eye: I’ve said it before, I love a good pair of shoes. I was gathering my things before getting out of my car to walk around downtown.

I saw Ashton’s shoes, jumped out of my car as fast as I could and ran down the street to catch up to her. I really like black contrasted with denim jackets, it’s a look several of my friends pull off quite often.

Since taking this photo I’ve been noticing black suede shoes in different styles around the area. This might be a trend so I’ll be looking out.

Name: Erin Dudley

Who is your style icon? “I would probably have to say Giuliana Rancic, she always looks so cute on TV.”

What’s this outfit’s signature piece? “ My shirt.”

Where to get it: White House | Black Market

Occupation: An analyst at Norfolk Southern

Age: 28

Location: Campbell Avenue, Roanoke

Date: Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Time: 6:23 p.m.

What caught my eye: Erin’s neutral-colored outfit was almost like a cute “fashion uniform” it was so well paired.

Her heels matched her skirt, her white blouse broke up the tans and blacks of her shoes and skirt, her gray-toned toenail polish was in theme. Even her gold/silver accessories matched up.

Erin is clearly someone who takes just enough time to get dressed in the morning, but not so much where it looks like she tries hard at dressing well.

Name: Ellie Wenning

What influences your personal style? ” I love the way Rihanna dresses, she’s a big influence.”

What’s this outfit’s signature piece? “My top and my new sunglasses.”

Where to get it: Top from PacSun, sunglasses from La De Da

Occupation: Music student

Age: 18

Location: Grandin Road, Roanoke

Date: Saturday, June 15, 2013

Time: 4:01 p.m.

What caught my eye: When I saw Ellie, to me her outfit just said, “I’m young and it’s summer.” I like her cat-eye shaped sunglasses and espadrilles that match her shorts.

Just remember a look like this has an age cap, I’d say somewhere between ages 21-25 is when you should probably find more appropriate versions.

Name: Annukka Salminen

What influences your personal style? “I like traditional, elegant styles. Timeless looks are my favorite.”

What’s this outfit’s signature piece? “My maxi dress.”

Where to get it: SELECTED Femme in Denmark

Occupation: Radiologist from Finland

Age: 30

Location: Salem Avenue and Jefferson Street, Roanoke

Date: Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Time: 5:54 p.m.

What caught my eye: I thought I’ve seen every possible maxi design, until seeing Annukka’s blue maxi that looked like a satellite image of clouds. It was quite unique, and go figure it’s from a store that you can’t find in the U.S.

Some people don’t think so, but maxi dresses are for everyone, just remember to shop around till you find the right bodice and strap design for your body type. Not everyone will look good in an empire waist or a halter top.

One rule does applies to all maxi wearers; whether you’re wearing flats, sandals or heels, the hem line of your maxi should always hover right above the ground, no exceptions.
