Some greats of blues, jazz and banjo are among the performers scheduled to play Jefferson Center's 2013-2014 Star City Series, the venue announces today .

James "Trombone Shorty" Andrews , who is at least as strong on trumpet as on trombone, brings his Orleans Avenue band to Jefferson Center's Shaftman Hall for the Sept. 19 season opener. Chris Thile, mandolinist and frontman for Punch Brothers, performs solo on Oct. 10, which should intrigue fans who have seen him performing classical songs on his own.

Mac "Dr. John" Rebennack won the 2013 Grammy Award for best blues album for "Locked Down." He brings his band, The Nite Trippers, on Oct. 19. Bluegrass icons with a side of jazz Jerry Douglas and Sam Bush bring their respective bands to Shaftman to share a Nov. 7 bill. Latin jazz act Spanish Harlem Orchestra plays Jan. 25, 2014, with Pedrito Martinez performing at the subsequent Latin Dance Party.

Roots music living legend Taj Mahal hits the venue Feb. 22 , with up-and-coming blues and soul singer Shemekia Copeland opening the show. And banjo master Bela Fleck returns on March 7, in a show that includes his wife, Abigail Washburn, who picks some mean banjo herself.

Jefferson Center's Jazz Series runs Dec. 13 through April 11 , with headliners Pat Metheny Unity Band, The Yellow Jackets, Snarky Puppy and Luciana Souza Quintet featuring Lionel Loueke and Gregoire Maret.

Jazz Club, the smaller but still powerful series presented in the venue's rehearsal hall, runs Sept. 27 through March 22 , and includes Charlie Hunter with Omaha Diner, Frank Vignola & Vinny Raniolo, drum great Cindy Blackman Santana paying tribute to the late Tony Williams and multi-lingual singer Magda Giannikou and her Banda Magda.

Tickets go on sale to Jefferson Center members on July 22, with a 20 percent early purchase discount. Season tickets go on sale to the public on July 29 at a
15 percent discount. On
Aug. 5, the venue begins selling tickets to individual shows. All tickets, including the season package, are half-price to students. For more information, go to jeffcenter.org.
