Led Zeppelin fans will get a chance to hear the classic sounds of songs like “Rock and Roll,” “Black Dog” and “Good Times, Bad Times.” Only it’s not actually Led Zeppelin.
Kashmir, a Zeppelin tribute band based out of New Jersey, will be playing at 96.3 WROV-FM’s “Sounds @ Six” on Friday at the Roanoke Civic Center plaza.
The concert is the first of three between July and September that will feature classic rock cover bands.
“ROV has been around for 24 years,” says the station’s Marketing Manager J.D. Sutphin, who also books the bands. “What better way to celebrate than by having live music outdoors?”
Sutphin, who’s been with WROV for nearly 11 years, says he loves outdoor events and really wanted to showcase classic rock cover bands. “When we booked Kashmir for Rock the Block in Lynchburg last year, we had over 3,000 people attend,” he added.
Sutphin said the Jordan Harman Band will be the opener for Kashmir. Because the concert will be in the plaza, people will get a good view of the city skyline, he said. “Since it ends at 8:30, we want people to go downtown to go eat and drink, because it’s good for business there,” said Sutphin.
The Aug. 9 concert will feature Rolling Stones cover band The Glimmer Twins. September’s band has yet to be announced.
