In the hip-hop world, the best calling card is a mixtape.
Rakim “A$AP Rocky” Mayers’ “Live.Love.A$AP” brought him major attention. His first major label release, “Long.Live.A$AP,” elevated him to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard pop chart, and it remains in that publication’s R&B/Hip-Hop top 10, 13 weeks after its release.
Tonight , the Harlem, N.Y., based Rocky hits Radford University’s Dedmon Center Arena, powered by the success of that album’s hit single, “F**kin Problems,” a song that features Drake , 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar.
Mayers was not able to clear time for an interview with The Roanoke Times, according to a publicist.
In a January interview with Rolling Stone’s Jeff Weiss, he showed no lack of confidence.
When the magazine asked him what statement he made with “Long.Live.A$AP,” he replied: “I want people to say he’s the best artist — not the best rapper of his generation, but the best artist.”
