The summer of lovin’ for Roanoke restaurants from national websites and publications continues.

On Southern Living magazine’s blog, “The Daily South,” writer Jennifer V. Cole has posted a list of “100 Places To Eat Now — The Checklist.”

This is a list of 100 different restaurants across the South that are serving food worthy of a trip or a stop.

Two of the restaurants on Cole’s list are right here in the Star City. One is The River and Rail in south Roanoke and the other is Texas Tavern in downtown Roanoke.

The only other Virginia restaurants that made the list are The Inn at Little Washington in Washington and Restaurant Eve in Alexandria. A few D.C. restaurants are on the checklist.

In late June, The River and Rail was listed in Food Network Magazine’s “50 States, 50 Ice Cream Treats” for its inventive twist on banana pudding with jalapeno-coconut ice cream. Earlier in the summer, Bruno’s GastroTruck was mentioned on a list of great food trucks on The Daily Meal website.
