I enjoy sharing pictures on Facebook, catching up on friends’ activities and exchanging political views.
High school is something I’d rather forget, but I’m glad I’ve contacted a few classmates from that time.
Lately, though, Facebook has been useful for spreading the news when those old friends die. Terry passed away in early July. He, Nancy, Sue, Brad, Dave and I hung around together on weekends and after school. As Nancy so eloquently put it, “We weren’t the ‘in’ crowd, but we were there for each other.”
As adults, Terry and I developed differing points of view about many things, and we used most of our posts to endlessly spar with each other.
hen I heard he had died, I was moved to write about our favorite former pastime — drinking beer (underage), piling into his car before those pages become memorials.
and jumping apartment complex speed bumps. He was such a good sport that time the U-joint dropped out of the front end! He didn’t even make us pitch in for the tow truck.
Now I wish I had shared those memories with him when he was alive.
Maybe we should use our Facebook posts to tell our friends how much they mean to us.
