It is 2 in the afternoon.
Little Guy, the terrier terror, and I are waiting for our young friend who lives next door to come up the porch steps to tell us he is home from school.
I always ask him how school was today. He smiles and says it was “good.” I ask him in for milk and cookies and a game of War, which he usually wins.
Putting down his book bag, he tells me about his day at the new summer enrichment program. He says he loves it and that he is learning math and reading a lot of books. And how about those robots they are building!
I am so happy he shares his school experiences with me because I live too far away from my own grandchildren to eat cookies and drink milk with them in the afternoon.
Many thanks to Rita Bishop, her staff, and all the caring teachers for making this experience possible — where students learn and have a great time while doing during the summer months.
Little Guy is barking now. That means our friend is coming up the walk.
Gotta go get out the cards and the peanut butter cookies. And hear about another wonderful day at summer school.
