Do you brew stellar beer at home? Maybe it’s time to enter your concoctions in a home brewer competition for a chance to win accolades and free tickets to the Blacksburg Brew Do craft beer festival this year.
The 5th Annual Blacksburg Brew Do Homebrew Competition is a non-sanctioned event organized by The Blacksburg Partnership, Bull & Bones Brewhaus & Grill, and the New River Valley Brewer’s Guild. The winners will be announced at the festival on Sept. 14 at the First & Main Shopping District in Blacksburg.
All first, second and third place winners will be listed on the festival website and will get a complimentary ticket to the Brew Do. First place winners will advance to the “Best in Show” round, which will be judged the day of the festival. The winner of “Best in Show” may get to brew their recipe at Bull & Bones Brewhaus and have it sold as the restaurant’s seasonal beer.
Submissions are broken into four categories: amber, dark, light and specialty. Each brewer may submit up to three different brews at $5 per entry. Entries must be dropped off at the First & Main shopping center in Blacksburg between July 29 and 31. Interested brewers must download and complete the entry form at www.blacksburgbrewdo.com/homebrew .
According to Diane Akers, president of The Blacksburg Partnership, there were 50 entries in the four categories for last year’s competition.
