“You never get to hold them until they’re gone.”

Such was the mournful statement the other day when I called home on my lunch break.

I knew exactly what he was telling me. Moe had died. He was one of a trio of angelfish we called Manny, Moe and Jack. Jack didn’t make it long, but Moe and Manny, whom we had to rename Frannie, were a breeding pair.

Unfortunately, plecostomus Elvis, their aquarium mate, had an appetite for caviar, so we never had babies.

So Moe now resides in the fish cemetery in the back yard.

RIP, Moe. And we’re so grateful for the lively pets we do get to hold each day: our orange tabby cats, Julius and Murphy.
