A Smith Mountain Lake truck has placed in the top 101 Best Food Trucks in America on the food and dining website The Daily Meal.

Bruno's GastroTruck is owned by Bruno and Tiffany Silva, who also own The Landing Restaurant and Bruno's GastroPub in Moneta. In early 2012, the Silvas took Bruno's "gourmet fast food" on the road in a custom-painted truck outfitted with a stove, griddle, grill, refrigerators, freezer, sink and other restaurant necessities.

The Silvas' truck offers an ever-changing menu; on a recent day, it included a fried oyster po-boy, a battered fish sandwich and a smoked pulled pork sandwich. The dishes are dressed up with accoutrements such as pickled onions, Sriracha mayo, and "huancaina" sauce, which brings Bruno's Peruvian roots to the menu.

The Daily Meal used a methodology for the list that included staff favorites, national and local press, review sites and numbers of Twitter followers and Facebook likes. Bruno's has 1,661 Facebook likes and 590 followers. Customers learn when and where the truck will be parked by checking out its updates on social media.

Lately, Bruno's GastroTruck has been making appearances at Parkway Brewing Company in Salem. It also frequents festivals.

Bruno's was the only food truck in Virginia to make The Daily Meal's list. It was up against competition from food trucks in major U.S. cities including Los Angeles, New York, Washington, Boston and Seattle.

To see the entire list, go to Thedailymeal.com. Learn more about the truck by visiting Bruno's GastroTruck on Facebook.
