When I think about summer, I think about vacation, and as an avid reader, I think about which books to pack.

Although I read all sorts of books, I believe that some make better beach/cruise/vacation reads than others.

For example, no matter how beautiful and sunny it is outside, it’s going to be a sad day if you’re reading Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road.”

But what makes an ideal summer vacation read? That varies from person to person. Someone who likes biographies of baseball players will have a different answer than a lover of zombie novels.

For the next few weeks, I’ll be taking answers to that question on The Back Cover books blog (blogs.roanoke.com/backcover). Tell me what books you like to read on summer vacation and why. The goal is to run a compilation in the newspaper and on the blog that other readers can use as a guide.

Here’s your chance to share your excellent taste in literature.
