I would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice in Christiansburg for its help, encouragement and the thorough information it provided prior to my dad’s death.
It is hard to see your loved one “leaving,” but it helped me to be more prepared knowing what to watch for as Dad neared the end. The staff explained that some people actually “graduate” from hospice, meaning that not everyone passes on just because hospice is involved; each situation is different.
We were encouraged to offer Dad food and/or drink; if he wanted it, great, but not to pressure him. I agree. I felt like at 82, he had been where we are; but we had not been where he was.
Hospice helped keep him comfortable as needed. Thankfully, he went peacefully.
