In early April, my wife and I came back to the area after leaving Roanoke in the summer of 1980 for Richmond.

It was great to come back home after more than 30 years and to visit relatives and friends.

Both of us taught public school music in the Roanoke County school system. I was born and raised in Roanoke. It was very special to me to begin my teaching career in Roanoke.

On the second day of our recent trip I lost the car while visiting places in the historic downtown market area. As the parking lots look similar, I became confused and could not locate the vehicle or remember where I parked it.

Luckily, some good Samaritans (local police, parking authorities, and a
Mr. Parker from Botetourt County) assisted in the search.

After nearly four hours the car was spotted. I now know why Roanoke is so special to me.

It is folks like this who help complete strangers in a time of need that make us want to return to the area.

I wish to thank all who helped my wife and me.
