My husband and I will celebrate our 20th anniversary in August. These are my tips for a long and happy marriage:

1. Marry a friend. When the hard times come (and they will) and you ask yourself why you married this person, you’ll have plenty of good memories to remind you.

2. Don’t expect him to be your only friend. No one can be everything to you. Spend time together but also cultivate outside interests and relationships.

3. Expect him to be just as perfect as you are. His faults are different from yours, which can make them seem more annoying, but you, no doubt, have plenty of your own. The day you conquer all of yours is the day you can tell him to fix his.
