Smith Mountain Lake students to participate in college fishing tourney

Two lake-area students will head out on the Chesapeake Bay Saturday and Sunday for FLW College Fishing’s Northern Conference Invitational tournament. Forty-five college teams have qualified for this tournament and will be going after a top award of $4,000 and a berth in the 2014 FLW College Fishing National Championship.

Blaine Chitwood of Wirtz will team with Cole Campell of Bassett to represent Radford University. Among those fishing for Virginia Tech will be Trey Stewartson of Moneta and Andrew Jackson of Lebanon.

Anglers will take off from the Anchor Marina in North East, Md., at 7 a.m. each day. Saturday’s weigh-in will be held at the marina beginning at 2:30 p.m., and Sunday’s final weigh-in will take place at Walmart located at 2 p.m.

Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
