Mexico Viejo at Crazy Horse Marina was the destination for Blackwater Yacht Racing Association’s annual Race to the Pub on July 13.

The 14 boats competing began the 4-mile course in Bull Run near Lakestone, proceeded to the BU5 marker and back to Crazy Horse.

The race featured a staggered start, with the slowest boats starting first and the fastest boats starting several minutes later. The moderate breeze made for an exciting race.

Two Light nings sailed by Charlie Wardwell and the team of Randy and Lauren Beauchamp finished 1-2. Mike Maloney’s J/24 Boogie Board finished third. The top-3 finishers were awarded six-packs of beer from SML’s Sunken City Brewing Company. The Last Scavenger award for last place was given to Dennis Keely in his Paceship 23.

The next BYRA event is the Aug. 23 Nite Race. For more information, call Mike Maloney at 721-8441.
