Hardy’s Kolton Cooper won the Senior Boys division at the Andrew Haley Memorial/Smith Mountain Lake Junior Golf Tournament, which was played July 22 at The Waterfront and July 23 at Mariners Landing. Cooper posted a combined score of 147 to take the title.

Nick Brediger of Roanoke finished second and Zeke Shen of Forest was third in the division.

In the Senior Girls division, Shannon Paylor of Greensboro, N.C., finished first, followed by Lyndsey Harris of Danville in second and Bassett’s Ria Farley in third .

One of the highlights of the tournament, which attracted some of Southwest Virginia’s top young golfers, was a hole-in-one by Grant Watson on the 5th hole at Mariners.

Derrick Chocklett of Roanoke took the Junior Boys division title. Connor Burges of Lynchburg was second, and York Robinson of Afton was third.

In the Junior Girls division, Alisa Caraballo of Troutville and Leisa Jayde Dudley of Roanoke finished first and second, respectively.

In the Rookie Boys division, Issac Simmons of Huddleston was first, Jimmy Massie of Lynchburg was second and Martinsville’s William Smith took third place .

The tournament, the SML Lions Club’s major fundraiser, attracted 91 golfers — 85 boys and six girls — from five states. More than $4,000 in favors and prizes w as given away.

Joe Brown served as chairman of the tournament . Ric Heinemann served as Haley family representative and Mariners Landing chairman , and Tom Hofelick was in charge of the awards.
