Donations topped $50,000 from more than 250 walkers who participated in the 5K Jim Cameron Memorial Walk on Sept. 21.
A dreary, overcast morning didn't keep participants away from the event that benefits Lake Christian Ministries, a Moneta-based organization that helps families in need.
Bart Matthies and Bill Daly, who served as co-chairmen, credited the success of the walk both to sponsor support and to pledges obtained by the participants.
"Our sponsors for the walk included many local businesses, the Moneta Lions Club, a SML Rotarian, in addition to two anonymous sponsors, and other individuals who just wanted to make a significant contribution," Matthi es said.
Among the walkers were 35 teams, including six that raised more than $2,000 each: the Boardwalkers (home owners association), 1st Colony Friends/Family, Lake Christian Ministries team, Bethlehem United Methodist Church Women, Bethlehem UMC Men's Squad and the Park Place Pacers.
"Those surveyed confirmed they had a great time and 100 percent said they want to do it again next year," Daly said.
The event is named in honor of the late Jim Cameron, who served as LCM director.
