The United Way of Franklin County will gear up for its 2013-14 campaign that will launch with a kickoff on Thursday at the Farmers Market in Rocky Mount from 5 until 8 p.m.
Music for the event, which is sponsored by Bridgewater Marina, will be provided by Geneva and Friends; Two by Two BBQ will be the vendor. On hand will be representatives from partner organizations and members of the volunteer board.
This year, a special effort is being made to introduce the public to the agencies that provide services and assistance to more than 21,000 citizens in Franklin County. Those agencies include STEP Inc., Helping Hands, the Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center, the Free Clinic, Carilion Hospice services and the YMCA. The United Way also supports 32 affiliate agencies such as Lake Christian Ministries, Goodwill Industries, Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and all the fire departments and rescue squads around Franklin County.
