VDGIF prepares for Labor Day weekend

There will be increased law enforcement presence on the lake during the weekend, according to Sgt. Bryan Young of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. He said the department typically has more officers working during holiday weekends.

“There will be increased patrols to try to keep accidents down,” he said. “It’ll be a busy weekend for us.”

Young said that Monday also is the first day of dove-hunting season.

Last weekend, the department saw heavy boat traffic, but there were no reported accidents or arrests for boating under the influence, said Young.
