Churches’ food drive collects cans of vegetables

New Hope United Methodist Church in Chamblissburg and Halesford United Methodist Church in Moneta joined together to sponsor a two-month food drive earlier this summer to help feed the hungry.

Under the leadership of the Rev. Kelvin Edwards, the drive netted 134 cases of green beans, peas and corn, which is more than 1,600 cans.

Area churches took part by praying for the drive and by contributing food.

Collection points were New Hope United Methodist ; Mt. Zion A.M.E. in Roanoke; and Parrish Chapel United Methodist Church in Chamblissburg.

The cases were distributed to food pantries at Mt. Zion; Parrish Chapel United Methodist; and Still Standing Ministries of Roanoke.
