Gospel music up next for Lakeside Singers

Smith Mountain Arts Council and its Lakeside Singers are gearing up for “Gospel Music Through the Year.” The program will be held Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Ecumenical Parish on Lakemount Drive and Virginia 122 in Moneta.

Under the direction of Velshera Johnson, the performance will highlight gospel music that travels through the Christian calendar, including many upbeat selections from Advent to Easter.

Lillie McAllister will join the group at the piano. She is the pianist at Bethlehem Methodist Church and previously played for Lakeside Singers. Several other musicians, including drummer Bob Armstrong, will provide musical accompaniment.

The first rehearsal will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Rehearsals will continue on Tuesdays from 6:50 until 9 p.m. The choir is non-denominational, and new singers are encouraged to join.
