Wines produced by Hickory Hill Vineyards of Moneta came home with two gold and eight silver awards from the sixth-annual Virginia Wine Lover Magazine Wine Classic competition.

A panel of wine experts spent the day at Riverstone Chop House in Suffolk evaluating offerings from dozens of wineries in the state.

The judging was done double-blind in flights using the UC Davis 20 Point System, which assigns a certain number of points to each of its 10 categories ranging from bouquet to color to taste to aftertaste.

Virginia Furniture Market will have a grand opening of its Virginia Furniture Market Express store today at 10 a.m.

The store at 1052 Independence Blvd. in Bedford will serve the Bedford, Forest and Lynchburg markets.

The 22,000-square-foot retail store is supported by onsite warehouse space and additional acreage at the site, which will allow room for expansion.
