An international hunger relief organization and Bethlehem United Methodist Church are joining forces in the fight against hunger. More than 100 volunteers are expected to package meals for the world’s hungry on Sept. 7 as part of Stop Hunger Now. They will gather at the church, 13586 S. Old Moneta Road, beginning at 10 a.m.
Stop Hunger Now meal-packaging is a volunteer-based program that coordinates the streamlined packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals of rice, soy, vegetables, flavoring and 21 essential vitamins and minerals.
“Stop Hunger Now provides an excellent venue to bring family, friends, neighbors and the community as a whole,” said Rick Carroll, meal-packaging event host at BUMC. “Joining together in a common cause to help end hunger in our world is a mission Bethlehem UMC is passionate about.”
This year, Stop Hunger Now is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its ongoing work to create a movement to end hunger. More than 100 million meals have been packaged and distributed with other life-saving aid to 65 countries. More than 250,000 volunteers from corporations, churches, schools and civic organizations have packaged Stop Hunger Now meals.
Another Stop Hunger Now event is scheduled for Feb. 8 at the new YMCA/Fitness Center on the Ferrum College campus.
