Hot air balloon rides and glow ceremony at the lake
Friday, August 30, 2013
Hot air balloons have been around for nearly 230 years, yet they still bring a sense of fascination and wonder wherever they float.
The lake community will get a chance to see hot air balloons at two events next week during the 3rd Annual Smith Mountain Lake Hot Air Balloon Classic.
The first event, a tethered balloon ride from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 6 , is a fundraiser for the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce. There will be about six balloons at the entrance to Mariners Landing, located at 1217 Graves Harbor Trail in Huddleston. The ride costs $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger.
A glow ceremony will light up Downtown Moneta on the night of Sept. 7 from 8 to 10 p.m. at the corner of Virginia 122 and White House Road.
All events are dependent on weather conditions. For more information, call 721-1203.
